Sales of electric cars are up sharply in Sweden

The latest figures from BIL, a Swedish business agency, show that registrations of new electric cars in Sweden rose 71 per cent in August from the same month last year. So far this year, pure electric vehicles have increased their share of the Swedish new-car market to 4.7 percent from 1.3 percent last year.

"If you combine pure electric vehicles with rechargeable hybrids, one in 10 new vehicles registered so far this year will be rechargeable, especially light trucks," BIL CEO Mattias Bergman said in a statement.

Mattias Bergman said the jump in Swedish electric vehicle sales in August was partly due to low registrations last August .In addition, the new vehicle tax "rewards and penalties" system has become Sweden's legal system, namely new purchase of low carbon emissions of the car will receive a bonus, high carbon emissions of the car will be subject to three years of punitive tax. The policy has boosted sales of electric cars in Sweden.
